    thank you for this! I have an old machine as well.. its the green one, 185J and this is the only video I found that is almost an accurate guide. Helped a great deal.. now I can USE my machine! Thank you!!!

    You have a nice machine. Could you load a more focused picture of the wirehook. When I got my Husqvarna machine the same wirehook was cut off. I drew the wire one turn out and bent the hook but I don’t know is the model after original.

    my mom has a 1900 …
    my mom has a 1900 singer treadle with full table but its a bit damaged here and there (drawers and sidetable tray as well as gryme and wear a bit on maching but is in remarkable shape for its age it looks the same as yours but a bit less art on it and she also has a few others without tables that are “Ward&Brunswick”late 1800-early 1900’s and “Singer”same year range . she paid only about 100$ for the three (at diff times) .she also has a 1900’s Universal Brand# 0 table clamp meat grinder !

    Thank you, quadrophinicefreak. I was confused for a long time, I’d say tree-dle and people would correct me, I’d say tread-le and people would correct me! I finally looked it up, and it is indeed tread-le! I’ll be sure to say it correctly now.

    FMK- I imagine it would be either the same or very similar. If yours has all the same parts in the same order as mine, it’ll work. Try it out and see. That is the problem with a lot of these old machines, no manuals!

    oh my ! that machine is beautiful! today I found a singer sewing machine, SN G9220081 i think from 1922, and I wasnt quite sure how to thread it, would it be the same as this?

    Not to be critcal, but the “ea” in treadle is pronounced just like the “e” in “bed”. Or even better, just like the verb “to tread”. No long “e” sound at all.

    Yep you are right. …
    Yep you are right. If made before 1900 it would have been a VS #2 instead of #27, as it is known as the Vibrating Shuttle #2. We have the same machine with the Sphinx decals but ours has no letter, only numbers in the serial, and is dated 1898 and is a VS #2. This has a long small diameter bobbin in a shuttle which is why the dual bobbin cover to access the shuttle with the bobbin inside.

    I’ve looked it up and gotten both answers. Thank you. My grandmother bought it used, she didn’t know how old it was or where it came from.
