Everything you will need to start the bagDisguarded jeans. you can get an old pair of jeans from a charity shop but most people have an pair they no longer need.Some Thread. Use either blue or orange to match the existing thread, this needs to be strong.

• A neck scarf. You might need two of these if you are using large jeans for a big bag.

Part 1.

Cut the legs off Making sure the crotch is removed, but leave the zip in tact. then steam iron them and prepare them ready to turn into a bag.

Stage 2whip the jeans inside out sew straight accross the bottom. Do this a couple of times to ensure that the bottom of your bag will be strong.Then return the bag the right way round, making a denim pouch ready to be turned into a bag.

Stage 3Cut two 20 x 4 inch strips out the trouser legs that you left previously and set them on a ironing board with the rough side facing the other.  Roll in the rough edges on the long side and press them flat then stitch on the long side. Ensure that your thread is visble on the outside.  Do the same on the other side leaving you with a neat flat denim tube.4

Attatch the strap to the bag.

Step 5Thread the neck tie around the bag and tie in an attractive bow.

These instructions are from 1926 but [I think] they are still relevant to our modern day. The main material used in making the homemade dress form is gummed paper. However, I would think you could use pre-pasted wallpaper and have the same results. It is quite common to find old or scrap wallpaper at thrift stores and garage sales (I’ve often found it in the “free box”). I have not tried this wallpaper technique, so I can’t say for sure if it would work, but my guess is that it would.
